Give me something to dance about and I’ll dance it.
Jerome Robbins, to Irving Berlin

2018 is the year the dance world comes together to celebrate the centennial of Jerome Robbins (1918-1998), a global celebration of Robbins, the director and choreographer whose creative genius during the 20th century continues today. Having created film, theater, and dance that has resonated for generations, Robbins is rightfully regarded as a towering figure in American cultural history.

In May, New York City Ballet launches its tribute with five programs showcasing Robbins' expansive versatility and cherished musicality. Interplay's young dancers take part in lighthearted competition as they revel in the exuberant yet cool melodies of the Morton Gould's jazz-infused score to American Concertette.

Expansive in scope and streamlined in style, Glass Pieces captures the pulsating heartbeat of metropolitan life with its charged, urban choreography, concluding in a finale that propels the corps de ballet across the stage at an electrifying pace to Philip Glass' exciting score.
