Summary

Thierry Escaich is one of the main representatives of the young school of French composers. In both Europe and North America his works (some fifty or so, ranging from solo instrument to symphony orchestra) are in the repertories of prestigious performers such as the Wanderer Trio, the organist Olivier Latry, the pianist Kun Woo Pak, Renaud and Gautier Capuçon, and orchestras such as the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, the orchestras of Chicago, Philadelphia and Bonn. His career as a composer is closely linked to his career as an organist, which has led him to be one of the ambassadors of the great French school of improvisation, in the wake of Maurice Duruflé whom he succeeded as organist of Saint Étienne du Mont in Paris. The whole of his vocal and instrumental production has been recorded by Accord/Universal. In addition to the SACEM’s Grand Prix de la Musique Symphonique, Thierry Escaich has twice been awarded a ‘Victoire de la Musique’, in 2003 and 2006. Since 1992 he has been teaching at the Paris Conservatory.
