Programme Note
Chiacone - after Colombi (2010) is part of the set of “Mystery Variations - on a Theme by Colombi for Cello” – a birthday offering written with love and admiration by Anssi Karttunen’s composer friends on the occasion of his fiftieth birthday. It is a variation on “Chiacona per basso solo” by Giuseppe Colombi (1635-1694), one of the oldest known pieces written for the cello.
