Programme Note

Henri Tomasi's Concerto for Trombone has a quintessentially Ravelian charm and seduction. In the first two movements, the trombone often responds to the orchestra’s outbursts with subtle, elegant lyricism. In the final tambourin, the trombone demonstrates its virtuosity, its fleshy sound superbly mingling with the orchestral transparency.
