Programme Note

TrailerExperience this Academy award-winning film (performed live with orchestra featuring John Corigliano's lush and Oscar-winning score) that follows a mysterious antique violin as it travels through four centuries, impacting all who come in contact with it — from its creation by a legendary violinmaker in 1681 Cremona, Italy — to a present-day auction house, where it draws the eye of an expert appraiser (Samuel L. Jackson).
Before the premiere, I rehearsed for five days with Dina Gilbert, the conductor, and Bernard Gariepy Strobl, the sound engineer who worked on the the original film.

Dina had headphones with occasional clicks, and we both had screens with the film and what are called flutters, streamers, and punches. Flutters are little white circle flashes that give you the upcoming tempo, streamers are green lines that give you an exact intro time, and punches are the "hit," which of course one would be late for were it not for the flutters and streamers!
