Looking Back is dedicated to cellist Andé Emelianoff who played the Da Capo Chamber Players from 1976 to 2011. I was pianist for 13 of those years. The piece was commissioned by his longtime friend John Gidwitz, and Todd Gordon and Susan Feder (former vice president of the classical division of my publisher G. Schirmer). There is one solo for cello as a tribute to André.
